Just the facts, Ma’am:
The
United States has a population of about 330,000,000. Germany
has a population of about 83,000,000—that’s roughly 25% of the US population.
Based on statistics
for the Coronavirus as of August 27, 2020, at Worldometers:
The total number of reported Coronavirus cases in the US was 6,046,634. The total number of reported Coronavirus cases in Germany was 240,565.
The total number of reported Coronavirus deaths in the US was 184,796.The total number of reported Coronavirus deaths in Germany was 9,359.
Let’s review the math.
Germany, a country 25% of the size of the US, has seen 4% of the number of US cases and 5% of the number of US deaths from COVID-19. Based on Germany’s population, had it followed the US approach to containing the virus, it would have seen 1,511,658 cases--not 240,565-- and 46,199 deaths--not 9,359. But, thankfully, Germany didn’t rack up those numbers. Why?
There is nothing inherently superior about Germans, or German public health officials, or German scientific research institutions. The superiority lies in how the German political system managed the pandemic: Consistent science-based messaging, accompanied by reliable testing and tracking, accepted by a population which maintains a basic trust in government institutions.
Germany crushed it. The US got crushed by an orange-faced malignant narcissist.
Keep it real! Wear your damn mask! Wash your hands! Stay 6 feet back!
